Celebrating an Anniversary of Reprieve

(From December 2025 Newsletter)

In December 2024, Save Notch Forest, along with thousands of others, helped persuade Mayor Macksey to stop a logging plan that would have negatively affected the city watershed forests and our water supply.

We are working to prevent future repeats and our main focus is getting these city owned forests into permanent protection as quickly as possible.

Please sign our petition for state funding.

We are working towards:

  • Forging a working relationship with the City of North Adams - one that involves public outreach, advocacy, intention and purpose. We want you to be a part of that effort by staying informed as well as providing your ideas. We see our organization as a liaison between the public and the city with the focus of guiding the future of our watershed - primarily as it responsibly maintains the integrity of our drinking water.

  • Mapping of invasive plant species with a primary focus on invasive shrub honeysuckle, barberry, and bittersweet. We also want to organizing volunteer invasive plant removal parties, and most importantly, monitor the effects over time.

  • Trail improvements - maintenance as well as signage updates.

  • Mapping opportunity areas for planting of native trees and understory plants in conjunction with volunteer outreach.

  • Identifying grants that help achieve these stewardship goals.

We have already informally adopted sensible sections of Notch Road and Reservoir Road and regularly patrol these roads for trash. (See our most recent haul on Instagram)

Thanks for helping us protect our watershed forests, as our efforts continue.
